Bo-Kaap Walking Tour with Culture Connect
18 May 2019
Local resident, community activist, and qualified guide, Bilqees Baker, takes you on a Bo-Kaap walking tour to private, sacred, and public spaces, including South Africa’s oldest mosque, Cape Town’s leading spice shop, and the kramats (shrines). Throughout the experience, you’ll learn about the country’s first political prisoners, slave history, and community issues, especially the increasing threat of tourist coaches that only stop for photographs. The tour concludes with a homemade Cape Malay lunch by Mymoena Saunders in her home in Bo-Kaap.
