Nicole Pletts

In our latest issue we feature three South African artists who explore their world in their own distinct way — from a minimalist style to nature-inspired representations and soft colour palettes, each individual artist has something to say and to share with the viewer.

Nicole Pletts

Nicole Pletts lives and works in Durban where she creates impressionist and contemporary artwork. She was a finalist in both the SASOL New Signatures 2009 in Pretoria and the Tollman Bouchard Finlayson Art Competition in 2014. Nicole won the d’Urban d’Art Exchange and Artist’s Choice Award Exhibition in 2012 and had her painting used on a Camberley Estates 2012 Shiraz wine label. She has exhibited her work in various spaces around the country, from Pietermaritzburg to Hermanus.

Nicole takes her camera wherever she goes and uses her own captured images as inspiration for her paintings. She is drawn to the colours of early morning and late afternoon and uses soft light and hues in her work. Her pieces mostly feature men at work, and this theme, along with a muted colour palette, has run through her work over the years. She hopes to provide the viewer with a sense of peace and harmony through her art.
