For those looking for somewhere to celebrate in the coming weeks, or simply a seriously good meal in a special setting, FYN’s two new menus set the scene for a gastronomic journey that will transport you to from the back streets of Japan to the ancient coastlines and verdant farmlands of South Africa.

Structured in traditional Kaiseki (multi-course) sharing canapé style, our Mother’s Day menu, which consists of six or eight courses for lunch, is a specially curated experience to celebrate the most important woman in your life. Drawing on our passion for Japanese cuisine, while honouring the rich local produce on our shores – it’s a layered multicultural culinary journey.

Your experience will start with a delicious cocktail, conceived by our GM and beverage aficionado Jennifer Hugé. A choice of a Sakura cherry blossom and peach Bellini, with floating petals, or a Clemengold gin negroni with handmade bitters will set the tone for the elegant and occasion-worthy meal to follow.

You’ll find some extraordinary new dishes on the menu to mark the occasion. Highlights include wild Cape Rock Oyster (an ingredient enjoyed as a delicacy as far back as 164 000 years ago) served with an oyster jelly and yuzu cream and garnished with Madagascan caviar. It’s such a subtle delicate dish – all the textures are just perfect.

As always, our menu is designed to celebrate the season and what’s naturally abundant right now, so expect beautiful autumnal ingredients like quince and mushrooms gracing the courses.

We’re convinced you’ll love our new Durban langoustine, served with Iberico pork chashu, white shoyu pickled celery, roast apple and miso purée. And while the emphasis is heavily on local – in line with our dedication to supporting SA growers and producers – there are still special ingredients from abroad. One such ingredient is the exquisite Unagi eel dish, which forms part of the dinner menu, and comes served with rice and fresh shaved truffle.

R875 per person, including complimentary welcome cocktail.
