Volvo S90

Until recently Volvo has somewhat carried the stigma of being the ‘retirement car’, the final step you take once you’ve got the white picket fence, traded the big city lights for the burbs, upgraded your pet fish for two golden retrievers, and have put three kids through high school.

This isn’t a bad thing, but times have changed. Volvo has made a stand in the market, and now instead of it being your ‘final frontier car’ it’s an anytime car, there to support every phase in your life. They satisfy everyone’s needs with their wagons, crossovers, SUV’s and now most definitely with their Luxury Sport Sedans like the S90.

The stigma

As with most executive sedans, you’ll immediately place yourself in the driver seat as an established individual that wants to play it safe and be super comfortable while doing that. With the new S90, it’s that and more. It’s not just an executive sedan that means business. It’s a Luxury Sport Sedan that means business, and a lot of it.

The player

The S90 packs it all. From an exterior point, the S90 creates a sense of belonging and pretty much owns every piece of road it hits with its impressive 21’’ wheels on the R-Design model. Sophistication and sportiness blend effortlessly here. You are greeted with an aggressive and bold nose, nestling Volvo’s signature Iron mark logo in the grille surrounded by a chrome finish. Moving to the side of the S90, the body has an aerodynamic design allowing for greater performance on the road. The back end has dual integrated exhaust tailpipes, overall placing emphasis that you can provoke a sporty feel to this sedan yet keep it stylish and tasteful. All of this flows effortlessly into the design of the interior. In the cabin, a setting fit for royalty, Volvo has kept true to its foundation with an uncluttered and spacious sanctuary with luxury sculpted seats.

The S90 houses Volvo’s in-car infotainment control system, Sensus. Allowing you the power to control all the functions of the car with a 9’’ touch screen keeping you connected and in charge.

The Game

The Germans have set the bar high with regards to performance in the luxury sedan segment. The Swedish however, has not only met this bar but have exceeded it. Considering the S90 weighs in just under 2tons, clocking in a top speed of 250km/h in the T6 Geartronic AWD model, you know it’s here to play and win. Packing both Super and Turbocharged in one engine, kicking out 235kW and 400Nm, what more could you ask for? Starting price for the S90 comes in at R750 340. This is coupled with a 5 year/100 000km Volvo Plan standard on all models.
