The-Marine-Hotel-Hermanus

Hermanus comes to bustling life during the annual Hermanus Whale Festival, occurring during the optimal time to sight and celebrate the Southern Right Whales who make a yearly pilgrimage to the waters of Walker Bay in the Western Cape’s Overberg region. For 2019, The Marine hotel in Hermanus will amplify these festivities by launching the first of a new annual series of exciting events grouped under the umbrella of “Whale Week”.

The Marine hotel is one of South Africa’s most spectacular seaside hotels and is one of three prestigious hotels forming part of The Liz McGrath Collection. Located on Hermanus’ famous Cliff Path with its breathtaking views, this five-star luxury hotel is the ultimate location for whale watching during whale season – often directly from the comfort of the sea-view bedrooms.

Running from Monday 23 September 2019 to Saturday 28 September 2019, the Whale Week daily events – including talks, a movie screening and exhibition – are open to the public to attend. The week’s activities will be officially launched to the public by the Hermanus Whale Crier, Thembinkosi ‘Bravo‘ Sabazile, and the Executive Mayor of Overstrand, Dudley Coetzee, who will cut the ribbon on the hotel’s new Whale Bell, which whale-watchers can sound to alert others to a sighting. Two of the events will feature a special Mini High Tea which includes a selection of finger sandwiches: Smoked salmon & cream cheese; Cucumber; Chicken mayo Sweet selection: Mini strawberry lamingtons; Mini carrot cupcakes; Mini fruit pavlova; Mini Scones; Chocolate brownie squares; Mini Apple Crumbles; Turkish delight. About The Marine

The Marine, a member of The Liz McGrath Collection, is one of South Africa’s most spectacular seaside hotels. Located on Hermanus’ famous cliff path, overlooking the breathtaking Walker Bay, the hotel offers visitors the unique opportunity to experience the finest land-based whale watching in the world from June to November each year. Guests are even able to view these majestic creatures from the comfort of their own sea view room. The Overberg region is also a must for adventure sport seekers, offering a host of activities – including hiking, mountain biking and marine sports.

Back at the hotel, guests can indulge in exceptional culinary delights created by Head Chef Tronette Dippenaar: from breakfast at the 1920’s-style Pavilion restaurant, to lunch and dinner at Origins at The Marine, as well as High Tea and sundowners in the Sun Lounge & Bar.

The 40 elegantly appointed rooms and suites include 10 Luxury Doubles with Sea View and 10 Premier Suites – both categories are perfectly positioned for watching pods of dolphins and whales as they swim in the bay below. Guests may take a refreshing dip in The Marine’s pool, located in the hotel’s tranquil courtyard, or in the Tidal Pool, which can be accessed from the cliff path.
