Doctor Scott is Psycho-Active at Artscape

Medical doctor, comedian, and drug law reform activist, Keith Scott takes a humorous, satirical yet enlightening look at a grim subject, the War on Drugs. Bot River Barrels & Beards Harvest Celebration

Some nine years ago, a wonderfully eclectic bunch of very talented Bot River winemakers challenged each other to grow the most luxuriant beard during harvest. Now, they’ve turned it into an annual festival hosted by a plethora of participating wineries in the Bot River valley. On the agenda for the day is the annual Beard Parade, new vintage wine tasting straight from the barrel, special release wines, a wine auction (the proceeds of which benefits various school-level projects in the region), and the Botriviera dinner feast.

Barrels and Beards Bot River Wine

Company’s Garden Tree Tour

The Company’s Garden has played an important historical role in the development of Cape Town; in fact, it is the reason it started in 1652. The Dutch East India Company (VOC) needed a refreshment station to supply fresh produce for European sailors travelling to and from the East. Landscape architect and lecturer Clare Burgess, together with bird expert Linda Hibbin, leads a walking tour through these iconic gardens to explore the edible and medicinal plants grown by the early settlers centuries’ ago. An optional fynbos-seasoned lunch is available by pre-booking via email.

The Noordhoek Crush 2019

The Noordhoek Crush breaks aristocratic expectations where quaffing and spitting wine are encouraged, and children are discouraged from attending. The annual wine festival not only welcomes children, but also makes sure they are well (and safely) entertained. For the adults, there is a dedicated wine tasting tent with over 20 wineries represented, a wine shop selling wines at cellar door prices, and Noordhoek’s best food stalls. Additionally, all the restaurants will be open as usual and wavering corkage for wines bought here.

Sam Smith: Thrill of it All Tour

Award-winning British singer Sam Smith performs live for the first time ever in South Africa as part of his ‘Thrill of it All’ world tour. Sam Smith first hit the charts as the featured singer on the 2012 Disclosure song “Latch”, releasing his first single “Lay Me Down” soon after. In 2014, Smith released In The Lonely Hour, his heartfelt debut full-length album, which has sold 13 million copies globally. The album included the smash hit “Stay With Me” a radio staple over the course of the entire year. Smith was nominated for six Grammys, of which he won four, including “Song of the Year” and “Record of the Year”.

Oysters Bubbles and Blanc Festival

Formally known as the Oyster and Champagne festival, this event has become bigger and better over the years with the inclusion of a few local Sauvignon Blanc producers. The day will highlight South Africa’s best oysters, Méthode Cap Classique, and sparkling wine producers, as well as a selection of Champagne (France), Prosecco (Italy), and Cava (Spain).
