Private and exclusive and located in the heart of the bushveld, Fitzpatrick’s Lodge at Jock Safari Lodge reopened on 1 November 2018 in the Kruger National Park. The child-friendly, private camp was redesigned and developed by Luxury Frontiers as the perfect home-away-from home for six guests. Accommodating families with children of all ages, Fitzpatrick’s is also perfectly suited to friends travelling together.
Retaining its rich, traditional safari lodge feel, Fitzpatick’s Lodge has a brand new lay-out and reimagined interiors and styling. Situated on the banks of the Biyamiti River, it is centred around spacious indoor and outdoor lounge and dining areas, complete with a new TV lounge and a deck with a swimming pool presenting excellent game viewing from the lodge, including regular sightings of the Big 5.
The redesign includes a new enclosed family unit with two luxury suites with bathrooms, leading to a private lounge area, deck and plunge pool. Separately located, the third suite is completely private, also boasting its own plunge pool and deck with views across the river bed and wilderness.
Steeped in history as the first private game lodge within South Africa’s largest National Park, Jock pays tribute to the legend of Sir Percy Fitzpatrick and his feisty dog, Jock. The area in and around the 6000-hectare concession is known for an abundance of birdlife and a staggering diversity of wildlife, including the Big 5 and wild dog. Twice daily game drives are offered, as well as guided wilderness walks, while the Jock Kids on Safari programme encourages educational and recreational wildlife activities for children of all ages.
Project Manager Jean-Marie de Vos of Luxury Frontiers explains that the natural surroundings of Fitzpatrick’s provided abundant inspiration for the lodge revamp in the form of the colour of the river sand, the fresh punch of bright green Jackalberry trees and the organic material and patterns discovered in the surrounding bush. ‘Layers upon layers of textures, fabrics, accessories and colours create a stylish, yet welcoming, homely ambience with the use of functional art in the form of leather suitcase side tables, campaign chairs for relaxing, paraffin lanterns for atmospheric light, travel trunk coffee tables and ottomans. A plush colour palette derived from an old Persian carpet, includes ochre and ruby red, emerald green and anthracite while faded florals are used to upholster the sofas, with blocks of intense colours as scatter cushions. The rich textures of linens, velvets and leather fabrics completes the look with design elements exploding against bone coloured walls and dark screed floors layered with natural jute carpets, animal skins, and Persian rugs.’
