Lunch has never been more fun, or delicious, than at The Pot Luck Club in Cape Town this winter. One of internationally renowned, multi-award-winning chef Luke Dale Roberts’s restaurants, The Pot Luck Club is perched at the top of the grain silo at The Old Biscuit Mill in Cape Town’s gritty yet trendy Woodstock area. With a bird’s eye view over the mountain and harbour, the restaurant offers its now trademark tapas-style dining to discerning restaurant-goers.
This winter sees the return of its Lucky Lunch menu, which runs from 1 June to 31 August 2018. Presented bento-style, lunch is served in small handmade bowls and wooden boards, and provides a feast for the eyes and taste buds.
Head Chef Freddie Dias says: “The selection of tapas on the Lucky Lunch is a great way to sample some of our favourite dishes, all with a global influence.”
Although dishes will change according to seasonal availability and chef’s inspiration, some dishes that diners can expect to see on the Lucky Lunch menu could be Korean broth, chicken migas, fish taco, chickpea fries, beef tataki and a fish slider.
Some dishes are firm favourites and have garnered The Pot Luck Club avid fans, like the fish taco with ceviche of sustainable fish served with black bean purée, avocado and sour cream; or the beef tataki with its zingy hoisin dressing, coriander pesto and citrusy ponzu mayonnaise. The fish slider is a comforting street-food must, with a delicate piece of battered fish served in a cloud-like steamed bun.
Some of the new additions that will be rolled out include a pulled pork corndog with apple mustard and harissa mayonnaise, while the chicken migas is a delicate dish of glazed chicken with butter beans and kale migas, inspired by traditional Portuguese family style cooking.
While inspiration for dishes spans the globe from the Far East to South America, there is pride in using local ingredients such as sustainable fish and seasonal fruits and vegetables.
The Pot Luck Club oozes urban appeal with its 180-degree views, New York loft-style feel and authentic touches such as bespoke crockery. Service is slick, spot-on, and unwaveringly informed and friendly, while the cocktails are a must (try a virgin one over lunch-time!). It’s no surprise that the Pot Luck Club was named number 10 restaurant in South Africa in the 2017 Eat Out Mercedes-Benz Restaurant Awards, and it also was awarded a two-plate status in the JHP Gourmet Guide for “exceptional dining that demands a detour”.
