The Kirstenbosch Summer Sunset Concerts are winding down to a close this month with a performance by two of the country’s most talented stars delivering the second to final show on Sunday 1st April – Kahn Morbee and Karen Zoid – followed by UK electronic band Morcheeba on Friday 6th April.

Goodluck at Vergenoegd Löw

The Whisky Live Festival
Attention whisky lovers! On the weekend of the 12th to 14th April, The Lookout at the V & A Waterfront will transform into an oasis flowing with the “water of life”, where some of the world’s finest single malts and blends will be readily available for sniffling, sipping, and swigging. This boutique-style tasting event is a hit with long-time connoisseurs and new enthusiasts of whisky, scotch, and bourbon.

Harfield Village Carnival
On 14th April, one of Claremont’s main roads will be closed off to make space for a smorgasbord of food trucks and stalls selling everything from delicious food, beverages, smoothies, and beer to jewellery, clothing, art, toys, gifts, books, home décor, and more. There will also be live music and a kids’ entertainment area, while the surrounding restaurants and pubs will also be participating in the merriment and festivities.

Pinotage and Biltong Festival
Two of South Africa’s favourite and unique signature foods come together at this celebration, hosted by the beautiful Perdeberg Cellar in Paarl. The festival will feature close to 50 different Pinotages from 18 Cape wineries, paired with a selection of biltong.

Stellenbosch Oyster & Bubbly Festival

Organik Love Project Trance Party
The Organik Love Project Trance Party is an epic jol just outside Caledon, a mere 100 km from Cape Town, in a beautiful lush outdoor venue. In addition to the different dance stages, which will be pumping music for most of the day and night, there’s a dam for swimmers to cool off in, a camping site for overnighters, and stalls selling food, clothing, arts, and crafts.
Dimmitrios Giannakis: Evening of Guitars
Meet at the gorgeous and opulent Casa Labia in Muizenberg for an Evening of Guitars, a live concert presented by South African entertainer and classical guitarist Dimmitrios Giannakis and featuring world-renowned classical guitarist Diego Campagna who will be playing a variety of classical, Latin, and Spanish master pieces.
The Darling Collection 2018
Seven students from the Fontys University Tilburg in The Netherlands have come to the delightful desert town of Darling in the Western Cape to create an exhibition that relates the personal stories of 35 different Darling residents. The upcoming Darling Collection (the 3rd annual instalment of the event) will include the different disciplines of art, from theatre and visual art to music, dance, and circus acts.

Cableway Charity Challenge
At a distance of 5.5km and a vertical climb of 750 metres (approximately 2 hours), the journey to the top of Table Mountain via Platteklip is a test even for fitness enthusiasts. Now, repeat that journey as many times as you can during the course of the day and you’ve got the Cableway Charity Challenge – “an endurance test like no other”. Each lap raises money for charity.

Bot River Barrels and Beards Harvest Festival
Every year, during the thick of the harvest season, when there’s time for little other than picking grapes, the winemakers and farmers of Bot River (and around the Cape) grow out their beards. What began a practicality to save time on grooming has become somewhat of a tradition, the official celebration of which is the Bot River Barrels and Beards Festival. In addition to a beard competition, the festival features delicious foods and wines from the Overberg area and foot-tapping boeremusiek.
Vergenoegd Estate Pizza & Wine Festival
Sunny days and balmy nights, delicious pizza and great wine – the perfect combinations for a good time in the winelands. All these will be in evidence at this year’s Pizza & Wine Festival, which takes place at Vergenoegd Wine Estate in Stellenbosch, over the weekend of 21 and 22 April (11am to 4pm). The perfect excuse to enjoy a selection of superb wines paired with mouth-watering pizzas and live music.

Decorex Cape Town 2018
Decorex is the pinnacle of the annual design calendar in Cape Town, with design, décor, appliance, home, kitchen, and hardware retailers from all over the country setting up stands to showcase their product ranges, services, and latest innovations. South African Cheese Festival
From the 27th to the 29th April, Stellenbosch’s Sandringham Farm will transform into a gorgeous and gluttonous feast of local cheeses, wines, deli products, and treats, sending guests home a few kilograms heavier and (most probably) with enough cheese to feed an army. The family-friendly event will also feature a Carnival Park with loads of fun activities for kids (and the young at heart).

Outdoor Movie Nights at Spier
Spier Wine Farm in Stellenbosch hosts monthly outdoor movie nights, where guests can watch a favourite classic or latest blockbuster under the stars (and with the Stellenbosch Mountains as backdrop) while munching through a luscious picnic basket prepared by the farm restaurant. The movie this April is “Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery.”
Groote Post’s Country Market
Take a break, round up the family and head out to the country to join the Pentz family in the gardens at Groote Post for their Country Market. This will be the last Market of the season. The Country Markets will reopen after winter on the last Sunday in August.
The terrace in front of Hilda’s Kitchen and adjacent to the Cellar will be brimming with market stalls showcasing delicious and beautiful country offerings including artisan foods, arts and crafts, home ware, clothing, décor and gifts. Elgin Cool Wine and Country Food Festival
The Elgin Cool Wine and Country Food Festival is an annual event held in the Overberg region, where a dozen or more wine estates come together to celebrate the offerings of the Elgin wine route. Each wine farm will be hosting its own festivities, which will include gorgeous country fare, plenty of wine, live entertainment, and fun activities for the kids. Please note that lunch must be booked ahead of time.
