By now you will have gathered that we are partial to adding a touch of sparkle to everything we do.
Thus, our attendance at the recent First Diamonds Classique Exclusive Launch was a fitting engagement for Southern Vines.
One of the most sought-after diamond merchants in South Africa, First Diamonds revealed their Diamant Classique at the prestigious event. Sparkling bubbly and dazzling company put a twinkle in everyone’s eye at the Victoria & Alfred’s Grand Life Café – a fitting venue for such a grand affair.
Creating a twist in the sparkling wine market, the team have combined an outstanding ‘New World’ wine with a cleverly encased diamond pendant (one of which was won by Ingrid Jones – a very lucky guest on the night).
As the diamond masters adage goes, ‘a diamond is far more than a stone, but rather a scintillating symbol of life’s celebrations’, which is of course how the brand’s blend of brilliance came about.
Brand & Marketing Manager for First Diamonds, Heidi Wahl says, ‘We wanted to bring together two of the finest products South Africa has to offer – diamonds and wine – in a product that is entirely locally made’. With many of our clients we find that they’re not sure what style of ring to buy before popping the question. With Diamant Classique the client is able to both purchase a fine diamond and create a memorable proposal and then come in afterwards with their partner to discuss the style of ring they would like created”.
At first glance, the bubbly appears as a beautifully bottled Méthode Cap Classique when in fact each bottle of bubbly holds a remarkable surprise that is revealed as the final glass of bubbly is poured: a ¼-carat diamond encased in a striking blown-glass capsule designed to be worn as a pendant. Each bottle of Diamant Classique is presented in an eye-catching case of polished aluminium, wrapped in elegantly tailored suede detailing.
“A diamond is far more than a stone, but rather a scintillating symbol of life’s celebrations!”
Being the bespoke diamond merchants that they are, with adequate notice, they can create bespoke bottles that can include diamonds up to three carats in size. Speaking of size, there’s nothing small about their affiliations, with sultry South African presenter-come-sweetheart, Jeannie D, being the face of the brand.
The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) certifies the bulk of their diamonds which are sourced directly from mine to market in accordance with the stringent Kimberley Process. A leading merchant of diamonds and Tanzanite, according to Wahl, their focus is on offering a bespoke personalised experience when it comes to buying diamonds, precious stones and jewellery. “We guide clients in finding the diamond or jewellery pieces that fit both their budget and personal style. We truly listen to what the client needs.”
Their bubbly, however, created by the celebrated Simonsig Wine Estate in Stellenbosch and pre-eminent producer Johan Malan, is no less than outstanding.
Diamant Classique is available as a classic Brut of which the refined creaminess of the mousse refreshes the palate and enhances the zesty citrus and unmistakable flavour of freshly baked bread; a Brut Rosé with a fine mousse, aromas of rose petals and red berries on the nose; and a Cuvée Brut Royal made from 100% Chardonnay charms with delicate citrus blossom and lime aromas complemented by hints of roasted almonds and brioche. All of which come carefully blended with remarkable finesse.
Diamant Classique can be purchased at selected fine dining establishments, with the option for patrons to order a more exclusive bottle, containing diamonds of any density. Shipping can be arranged nationwide.
