The Vineyard Hotel has earned its reputation as Cape Town’s good food and wine hotel through a series of extraordinarily popular events that allow guests to experience premium wines paired with gourmet food, in the elegant surroundings of The Square restaurant, or on their famous lawns.
The hotel’s ‘Tastes of 2016’ wine-paired dinners are a firm highlight on the food and wine events calendar and have grown exponentially over the last decade, expanding to include top wine estates from across the country.
The upcoming Tastes of 2016 dinners promises another sensational line up of great food, celebrating its auspicious tenth year with the suitably fitting theme – ‘knowledge sharing’. This will essentially ‘swap’ Vineyard’s chefs and their staff with those of top wine estates and their kitchens. Each group will have the opportunity to learn more about how things are done, including harvesting, foraging, wine and olive oil making and sustainable farming.
Commenting on this exciting initiative, Matt Deitchman, the hotel’s Food & Beverage Manager, says: “As the Vineyard Hotel is known as one of the Cape’s top food and wine destinations, we want to share some of our knowledge and experience with other chefs and staff, while gaining experience for our own. By ‘swapping’ with top wine estates we can spread the culinary love, as it were, while getting hands on experience in harvesting, foraging and sustainable farming. Each group will return to their respective kitchens equipped with a more holistic experience.”
Events on the Tastes of 2016 calendar kicked off in March, with the Vineyard’s perennially popular festivals of Bubbles, and Pinot Noir, followed by well-attended wine-paired dinners hosted by estates including Warwick, Mulderbosch, Delaire Graff, Morgenster, Oak Valley and a selection of Elgin Valley estates.
On Friday, 23 September, it is the turn of La Motte wines, one of the Rupert-family estates. All but one of La Motte’s wines achieved 4 or more stars in this year’s Platter wine guide. Join us to learn more about a fascinating wine farm and to enjoy the wines, paired with dishes designed expressly to complement the wines.

It is the last of the Taste of 2016 events guests can still book for, as the final dinner was sold out a while ago.
